If you bought a redmi 1s you must be astonished by the sheer power and functionality of you phone. At the same time you must be annoyed with many of the issues with the phone. In this post let me teach you how to rectify all the problems with your Redmi 1S. Doing these are completely easy and make your phone a real value for money beast.
Don't worry of voiding your warranty because the great Xiaomi will repair even rooted and customized phones which other companies are not upto.
The problems with Redmi 1S
Most the problems in this phone arise due to a common culprit- The MIUI ROM which is installed in it and the other is the overclocked cpu.
Bad RAM management, results in less as available for your apps and the battery just discharges like insane.
1)Install Philz recovery on your redmi 1s
Download Philz recovery from this link . HERE
Paste it to the root of SD card (not in any folder) and rename it update.zip
Power off your phone
Press both power and volume up ⬆ for some seconds to boot into recovery mode.
Use volume up ⬆ down keys to and power button to select.
Select Install zip from SD card and reboot.
2) Root your Redmi 1s
Download the root package from HERE and paste it to the external SD.
Reboot to recovery. You will see the purple Philz recovery screen.
Use power button and volume button for selection and navigation - install zip ->Choose zip from external_sd -> navigate down and choose the zip and say yes if prompted using power button(selection) and volume buttons
After flashing is completed -> reboot system -> say yes for fixing recovery
3)Change the MIUI ROM to any other custom ROM
I recommend the Mokee ROM. It is fast, fluid and stable. There are other ROM s like CM11 but it is more buggy and Mokee is the refreshed version of CM11.

Download the latest version marked as RELEASE. Others may be experimental or buggy.
Paste it to the root of your SD card
Reboot to recovery mode by the above mentioned way.
Select Wipe cache partition
Select install zip option
Select zip from SD card if you downloaded the ROM there or select zip from external_sd if you downloaded it there.
Select the downloaded ROM (about 270 mb in size).
Install it
Then select the option wipe data/factory reset(this will delete all of your app data, better have backup)
And reboot.
Tadaa you have the shiny new redmi with Mokee ROM.
Now your phone is rooted and has mokee ROM installed.
Underclock Redmi cpu to decrease heating and increase battery life.
Go to settings
Select performance
Processor
Select min speed to 300MHz and Max to 1190Mhz
Set CPU governor as ONDEMAND
Check ☑ set at boot option.
Tadaa everything is with your phone . No more heating, battery drain and no more force closes.
